The Franklin County Junior Varsity Lions football team extended its winning streak to five games with a 44-0 rout Thursday over the Banks County Leopards in Homer.  The Lion defense overwhelmed Banks early, forcing the Leopards to punt on each of their first three possessions.

Undefeated Moore wins region cross country meet

The Franklin County Middle School cross country season finished Sept. 24 with the region meet in Madison County. The Lady Cubs and Cubs finished with an undefeated region champion and multiple individual Top 20 finishes.

Lady Lions advance in Region 8AAA tournament

The Franklin County Lady Lions swept Monroe Area Saturday to earn a spot in the final four of the Region 8AAA tournament and a berth in the upcoming state playoffs. Now, the team has its eye on a Region 8AAA championship, something that eluded them in their state championship season last year.

Tiebreaker makes Lady Lions No. 2 seed in 8AAA tournament

Editor's note: This story has been edited to correct the times for Saturday's home 8AAA tournament games. The games are at 10 a.m. and noon at FCHS.   To win the 2019 Region 8AAA softball championships, the Franklin County Lady Lions will once again have to do it on an opponent’s home field.

Lion Cross-Country holds first meet at new course

A canon boomed sound and smoke Saturday to start the races at the Franklin County Invitational. It was appropriate that the signal for a score on the football field was used to send off the runners. For Franklin County’s cross-country program, the meet was a definite touchdown.

Home opener delayed a week by lightning

The fans came. The teams began to warm up. But the 2019 Franklin County football home opener set for Friday night at Ed Bryant Stadium was not meant to be. A thunderstorm brought heavy rain to the stadium and lightning to the area.
