Two preseason scrimmages scheduled for the Franklin County Lions football team have been scrapped. Georgia High School Association Executive Director Robin Hines cancelled preseason scrimmages Thursday after meeting with a health advisory council on Wednesday.

The Franklin County Lion baseball seniors were recognized before their final game at Jackson County in Jefferson last month. Their season, and the seasons of all spring sports athletes, ended Thursday when Gov. Brian Kemp closed schools for the rest of the school year.

CARNESVILLE – The closure of schools for the rest of the school year also means that the remainder of spring school sports seasons have also been cancelled.

The Franklin County Lions completed a season sweep of the rival Hart County Bulldogs Friday night and will play Saturday for the Region 8AAA championship.

Lions advance to 8AAA semis, state tourney

A year ago, the Franklin County Lions were upset in the quarterfinals of the Region 8AAA tournament. The loss appeared to prevent the team from making the state tournament, until the team was chosen for the state’s one wild-card spot.

The Lions Den is expected to be packed Friday night for Franklin County basketball’s regular season finale against archrival Hart County. The rivalry will bring folks out, but both the boys and girls games will be key ones for seeding in the upcoming Region 8AAA tournament.

Lady Lion Jayden Gailey named state's top player for second straight year

Franklin County Lady Lion Jayden Gailey has been named the Class AAA Softball Player of the Year for the second straight season. The Georgia Athletics Coaches Association released its All-State teams last week. The coaches from the region champions in AAA selected the teams.

Lions stay unbeaten in region with win over Jefferson

By Shane Scoggins Publisher   The Franklin County Lions passed another test Tuesday night. The Lions welcomed the Jefferson Dragons, a preseason Top 10 team, to Carnesville and sent them home with a 71-63 loss.

Lions live up to state ranking with impressive victories

The Franklin County Lions are ranked No. 8 in the state in Class AAA. The team showed that it’s worthy of the hype with its last two victories. On Tuesday, the Lions travelled to Morgan County and defeated the defending state champion Bulldogs 67-58.
