Lions to host first meet on new home cross-country trail

One Franklin County sports program will officially christen its new home Saturday at 8 a.m. The Lion cross-country teams will host their first meet at their new course across High Road from Franklin County High School.

Lady Lions take control of 8AAA race

Region and state tournaments are still a few weeks off for high school softball teams, but Wednesday's game in Carnesville between the Franklin County Lady Lions and Jackson County Lady Panthers had a postseason atmosphere. For good reason. The two teams were tied atop the Region 8AAA standings.

Lady Lions to face Jefferson, two No. 2 teams in 48 hours

Maxpreps.com ranks the Franklin County Lady Lions and other softball teams in the state based on the team’s record and strength of schedule. If the Lady Lions continue to win this weekend, their ranking will surely go up.

Comeback falls short against Banks

A defensive battle Friday night in Homer may have uncovered unforeseen offensive weapons for the Franklin County Lions. The Lions fell 15-7 to the Banks County Leopards in what was a physical, defensive contest.

Lions fall to Indians 42-28 to begin season in four-hour opener

The Franklin County Lions fought for nearly four hours Friday night to overcome the Stephens County Indians but came up just short. The Indians came away with a 42-28 win in The Reservation in Toccoa in both teams’ opening contest.

Volleyball Lady Lions net first ever victory

The Franklin County volleyball program has checked most of its “first-ever” accomplishments. The Lady Lions had their first games in 2018 during their first season, at the end of which they graduated their first senior class.

Things are a little more familiar for the Franklin County Marching Pride Band this football season. Director Christopher Sampson is in his second year at the head of the band, so his returning band students know what to expect from him. But last year’s changes were inspirational.

Varsity cheer is 23 strong in 2019

The Lions and their fans will have plenty of support on the sidelines this season. The Franklin County varsity football cheerleaders are strong in number and plan to wow fans with some new moves this football season. The 2019 varsity squad is made up of 23 cheerleaders from grades 10-12.

Lions look to continue progress in 2019

An all-new football staff, led by Head Coach Paul Sutherland, took over the Franklin County Lions football team before last season. As the new season was about to begin in 2018, Sutherland felt rushed. His football staff had been assembled late, so spring practice had been piece-meal.
