By Samantha Sinclair Staff Writer CARNESVILLE — An alleged incident involving dress code at Franklin County Middle School provoked complaints from parents Thursday, leading to heated conversations and attacks on educators on social media.

By Samantha Sinclair Staff Writer   LAVONIA — Vulcan Materials had answers for many questions and concerns asked by locals at the company’s second informal gathering Tuesday afternoon, but one question remained. Is a quarry the right fit for the surrounding community?

Red wins state shot title

By Shane Scoggins Publisher   Keylan Rutledge dominated the first five attempts in the shot put competition at AAA State Championships Thursday in Carrollton. But it still took one last scream-aided throw to win the state championship.

By Shane Scoggins Publisher   CARNESVILLE – The first formal step in adopting a new Unified Development Code will come today with a hearing before the Franklin County Planning Commission. The planning board will hold a hearing during its meeting today beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Carnesville celebrated the opening of its splash pad with a Fun Day Saturday that included a free lunch and lots of water play with inflatable water structures and water toys, in addition to the splash pad.

By Samantha Sinclair Staff Writer   LAVONIA — Adam Dawkins is proving he knows how to barbecue one competition at a time. On Saturday, his Bad Rooster BBQ competition team won first place for pork at the Jiggy with the Piggy Festival in Kannapolis, N.C., with a perfect score of 180.
