CARNESVILLE – The Carnesville Fire Department held its second annual Junior Firefighter Day Thursday to give 24 fourth and fifth grade students hands-on fire and rescue experience from departments in the area. The Carnesville, Red Hill, Bold Springs and 5 Area Fire Departments hosted the event.

Genie Moore named new Lavonia Chamber director

By Gillian Raese Staff Writer   LAVONIA — Genie Moore was introduced as the new Lavonia Chamber of Commerce director at the group’s awards dinner last month. Moore moved to Jefferson two years ago with her husband of six years, her three rescue huskies and a parrot.

By Shane Scoggins Publisher   CARNESVILLE – A final public hearing and vote on a proposed $27.4 million county budget for 2023-24 will be held Monday at the Franklin County Justice Center. Franklin County commissioners will hold a third and final public hearing June 5 at 5 p.m.
Georgia’s rural hospital tax credit program is in compliance with the state law that created it in 2017 and just needs to tighten up its reporting procedures, according to a new audit.  The program raised $58.7 million in contributions to eligible rural hospitals last year, down slightly from the $59.4 million the tax credit brought in in 2021.

From staff reports   CARNESVILLE – About 235 members of the Franklin County High School Class of 2023 will receive diplomas Friday during Graduation Ceremonies at Jeff Davis Field at Ed Bryant Stadium. The ceremony will begin at 8 p.m.
The annual Memorial Day Ceremony will be held May 29 at 9 a.m.  at the Memorial Plaza at the Franklin County Courthouse.
