Two new members of the Industrial Building Authority were appointed Monday night, along with three new members of the Franklin County Planning Commission.

Franklin County Manager Derrick C. Turner was one of more than 125 government leaders from across Georgia recently recognized as a Certified Public Manager by the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia.

Assistant Superintendent of Operations Carl Dekker presented the proposed general fund budget of $44,040,919 for fiscal year 2024 to board members Thursday during a first public hearing.

The third annual Northeast Georgia Hot Rod Festival offered an oportunity Saturday for a younger generation to ooh and aah over iconic vehicles from an earlier age. The festival drew a large crowd of all ages to see a variety of cars from the 1930s to the 2000s that filled downtown Lavonia.

The Carnesville Fire Department held its second annual Junior Firefighter Day Thursday to give 24 fourth and fifth grade students hands-on fire and rescue experience from departments in the area.

The Lavonia Downtown Development Authority has suggested eliminating the 12 four-foot benches and the hazardous concrete benches at the Gazebo downtown and replacing them with six eight-foot benches, two recycled plastic picnic tables, new trash containers and a bicycle parking area.
