Royston Natural Gas was notified Thursday at 3:02 p.m. that a contractor working to install fiber optic cable for TruVista drilled into a six-inch gas line in the right of way of Highway 17.

By Shane Scoggins Publisher   CANON – A natural gas line was accidentally cut Thursday on Highway 17 near Canon, resulting in the closure of the state highway for several hours. Royston Natural Gas was notified Thursday at 3:02 p.m.

By Dawson Baker The Hartwell Sun   LAVONIA – Hart County first responders, alongside Georgia State Troopers from Post 52 in Hart County, were dispatched Monday to a fatal, three-vehicle crash on Interstate 85.

Man charged with assaulting neighbor

From staff reports   CANON – A Canon man was arrested Friday for allegedly assaulting a neighbor as he cut his grass. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident that occurred on Friday around 2 p.m.

Roberts retires after ‘a good 32 years’

The City of Royston has had a historic preservation ordinance in place for a while, but now the city has moved to enact it.  The Royston City Council recently voted to amend the ordinance to bring it up to current standards and appointed three members to the Historic Preservation Commission.
