ROYSTON – The Georgia Department of Transportation reopened U.S. Highway 29 Tuesday with a new bridge over Beaverdam Creek. The new bridge replaces the former 100 year old bridge crossing which was originally installed in 1923 and widened in 1970.

By Gillian Raese Staff Writer   LAVONIA – Whataburger is coming to Lavonia. Lavonia City Manager Charles Cawthon announced Tuesday night at the September city council meeting that Whataburger would be opening their eighth location in Georgia off Highway 17 across from Dunkin near Burger King.

Identification and clothing matching those of Cordell Barnes, who was reported missing from White  County in July were found on a body found deceased in Lavonia on Monday. An autopsy is being performed to confirm the identity of the deceased and cause and manner of death.

By Noah Johnson White County News   LAVONIA – A body found in Lavonia could possibly be missing White County resident Douglas Cordell Barnes. On Monday, the Lavonia Police Department reported that they were investigating the death of an unidentified person found in Lavonia.

LAVONIA – The City of Lavonia has announced that Ashley Rose Dodd will become Lavonia Main Street Manager as of the end of September. Dodd has worked for the last few years at Lavonia City Hall.
