Moore resigns post as schools’ athletic director

By Shane Scoggins Publisher   CARNESVILLE – Franklin County Schools Athletic Director Clay Moore is leaving the school system to work in the financial advisement industry. Moore’s resignation, effective June 30, was accepted last week by the Franklin County Board of Education.

Recount confirms margin in runoff

By Shane Scoggins Publisher   CARNESVILLE – A recount of ballots cast in the runoff election for the District 1 seat on the Franklin County Board of Commissioners last week resulted in the exact same count as election night.

By Charlie Eavenson Staff Writer   LAVONIA – The Springview Heights community held its first-ever Juneteenth celebration Saturday at the Spring Street Gym and Community Center.  Throughout the day, more than 250 people from all parts of Franklin County attended.

By Shane Scoggins Publisher   FRANKLIN SPRINGS – The Franklin Springs City Council voted unanimously last week to buy a Southern Linc communications system for use by the city’s police and fire departments. The system will cost $21,024 total with a $30 per radio fee per month for LTE service.

By Shane Scoggins Publsiher   ROYSTON – The Royston City Council voted Monday to hire veteran manager Lanier Dunn to lead the city’s staff. Dunn resigned in May after 23 years on the City of Elberton’s staff, the last 18 as city manager.

Preliminary schools budget shows deficit

By Charlie Eavenson Staff Writer   CARNESVILLE – The Franklin County Board of Education got an overview Thursday of the upcoming fiscal year 2025 budget which showed there could be as much as a $4 million shortfall between revenues and expenditures.
