By Charlie Eavenson Staff Writer   CARNESVILLE – Lions, tigers and bears, oh my!  Well, we have two out of the three here in Franklin County. The Lions are at Franklin County High School and the bears appear to be roaming all over the western part of the county.

From staff reports   CARNESVILLE – The City of Carnesville will kick off two weekends of Easter celebrations for Franklin County on Sunday. Carnesville will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt Sunday at 2 p.m. at Carnesville City Park.

Life Skills for Lions teaches high school students about post-graduation world

By Charlie Eavenson Staff Writer   CARNESVILLE – Many people complain that today’s young people aren’t learning practical things such as how to create a budget, how to apply for a job or how to shop for a home or car. Franklin County High School has set about to correct that for its students.

The schools use the program as an incentive for the children to read more. Depending on the school, the rewards are based on behavior, attendance and/or grades. Vending machines offer books to elementary students

By Charlie Eavenson Staff Writer   New vending machines in Franklin County elementary schools don’t contain soft drinks and candy. Instead, they offer books. Royston, Carnesville and Lavonia elementary schools each received book vending machines in February.

Lavonia plants tree to honor Mrs. Margaret

By Shane Scoggins Publisher   LAVONIA – The City of Lavonia honored one its biggest supporters Thursday by planting one of her favorite trees at the home of one of her favorite organizations.
Emmanuel University President Greg Hearn was honored Thursday as the 2024 recipient of the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce’s Charles E. Bradshaw Good Citizen Award at the chamber’s annual Gala and Awards at the Swails Center. Rachel Howington, the chamber’s executive director, presented the award. Hearn is a longtime active community and business leader and was named president of Emmanuel last year.
