Franklin wins District title

The Franklin County Little League 9-11 year old team won the District 7 championship Sunday in Crawford. Franklin defeated Rabun County in back-to-back games to earn the title. Franklin won 11-1 and 15-0 to claim the title.

Lions named to AAA All-State team

Four Franklin County Lions have been selected to the Georgia Dugout Club’s Class AAA All-State Team. Outfielder Ty Peeples, infielder Keilin Sanders and pitchers Caden Cawthon and Easton Gailey were all named to the All-State squad.

Phillips called up

By Shane Scoggins Publisher   Ryan Phillips has been called up to lead the Franklin County Lions baseball program. An assistant for the team for the last eight years, Phillips was named head coach last week and introduced to the team by Athletic Director Clay Moore in a meeting Thursday.

Placing at state

By Shane Scoggins Publisher   The Franklin County High School track teams brought home medals from the Class AAA State Championship Meet held last week in Albany. Saniya Heard led Franklin County performers with a second-place finish in discus and a third-place medal in shot put.

Advancing to state

By Shane Scoggins Publisher   Franklin County track athletes set school records and qualified for the state meet in 20 out of a possible 23 events Saturday at a state sectional meet in Carnesville.
The Lions will begin its 2024 season with a scrimmage Aug. 9 against Madison County in Carnesville.

Spring football practice under way; Green-White Game set for next week

By Shane Scoggins Publisher   Franklin County Lions football is back on the field for spring practice. The team began practicing last week. “So far, so good,” Head Coach Chuck Holland said.  The team still has a ways to go, but he likes the progress the Lions are making.

FCHS to host sectional meet Saturday

By Shane Scoggins Publisher   Franklin County will host athletes from 26 schools representing half the state in Class AAA Saturday for the Georgia High School Association’s B Sectional track meet at Jeff Davis Field at Ed Bryant Stadium.

Lions end season in second round of state

By Shane Scoggins Publisher   Another sterling season for the Franklin County Lions baseball team ended Monday with a series loss in the second round of the state playoffs. The loss was the earliest exit from the playoffs for the Lions in four seasons.

Soccer, slow-pitch fall at state

From staff reports   Franklin County’s boys soccer and slow-pitch softball teams fell in state competition last week to end their seasons. The slow-pitch team had two heartbreaking losses in the Slow Pitch State Softball Championship in Woodstock.
