Lavonia Night Out Against Crime is tonight

LAVONIA - Thursday is going to be a busy day for the Lavonia Police Department. Starting at 5 p.m., the police department and the Lavonia Lions Club will be hosting its annual Lavonia Night Out Against Crime until 8 p.m. in downtown Lavonia. There will be free food, face painting and lots of fun.

'Aladdin' opens Friday at Cultural Center

LAVONIA – The Franklin Community Players recently announced the cast has been set for its upcoming production of the family musical “Aladdin and His Wonderful, Magical Lamp.” Performances are scheduled for Sept. 27-29 at the Lavonia Cultural Center.

LAVONIA – The Lavonia Fall Festival is bringing an array of new attractions and favorite regulars Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Lavonia. Vendors will offer creative works in gems, fabric, leather, wood, metal, ceramics and pottery.

FCHS gets another A for grad rate

CARNESVILLE – The Georgia Department of Education recently released the graduation rates for 2019 and Franklin County High School is still holding strong. The high school has a 90.7 percent graduation rate for 2019, which is down just slightly from 91.3 percent in 2018.

CARNESVILLE – Three people were arrested after a traffic stop led to the discovery of narcotics last week. Franklin County deputies performed a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling on Interstate 85 for tag violations on Sept. 9.

CARNESVILLE – Royston City Council Member Lee Strickland and his wife Sheena may continue to vote in the city of Royston and Franklin County. And Lee Strickland is free to run for reelection in November.

Academy aims to foster leadership in young people

CARNESVILLE – A group of Franklin County High School students have been chosen to learn one of the secrets behind the U.S.’s top fast-food restaurants. Thirty students in the 10th through 12th grades at FCHS recently began the Chick-Fil-A Leadership Academy.
The Franklin County Board of Education has approved the spending of no more than $25,000 in special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST V) funds for property feasibility studies to determine the best location for a new Royston Elementary School.
