CARNESVILLE – A Mexican businessman looking to expand his business in the United States was lured to Franklin County by I-85 and the poultry business. Pedro Galvin and local officials broke ground Friday on the future location of Kool Farm LLC in the Central Franklin Industrial Park.

LAVONIA – A few Lavonia residents have gotten together and are working to get more people to vote during this year’s municipal elections. Marcella Wright informed the Lavonia City Council during their regular meeting Tuesday that she and LaDonna Andrews are spearheading a get out the vote campaign.

ATLANTA – Lavonia Police Chief Bruce Carlisle was in Atlanta last week to be sworn in to a state office by Gov. Brian Kemp. On Dec. 14, Gov. Nathan Deal appointed Carlisle to the Board of Public Safety as the representative for the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP).

Highland Walk named state’s best

ROYSTON – Highland Walk Golf Course at Victoria Bryant State Park has been named Georgia State Parks’ Course of the Year.  The course was honored during a recent statewide conference in Savannah held by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

CARNESVILLE – A complaint filed against Franklin County commissioners and other officials was dismissed Monday by the county’s ethics board.

Candidates to face off in Franklin County cities

As of Wednesday at noon, four of Franklin County's five cities are guaranteed to have contested elections Nov. 5. Qualifying for positions on city councils in Franklin County got under way Monday. Qualifying for races was held through Wednesday at around 4-4:30 p.m.

Test finds rabies in fox in Lavonia

LAVONIA – A fox killed Saturday in Lavonia has tested positive for rabies. The fox was found in the area of Vickery Street and Washington Street, a press release from the Franklin County Health Department said.
