Senior citizens will see lower county tax bills after a referendum passed Tuesday to raise the county’s homestead tax exemption for those 65 and older. Lavonia city voters approved a similar measure for city taxes.

Polls will be open today from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. to decide the 2020 general election, which includes the race between President Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden.

Sheriff Stevie Thomas announced Monday that several employees and inmates at the Franklin County Detention Center had tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

The early voting poll at the former Carnesville Elementary School – Primary on Hull Avenue in Carnesville will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
