By Charlie Eavenson Staff Writer   CARNESVILLE – The new school year will feature several new faces in new places, based on the Franklin County School System personnel transfers announced this week.

From staff reports   A chaotic few hours on I-85 last week resulted in arrests, two vehicle crashes, serious injuries and a medical emergency involving a Georgia State Trooper. The incidents that occurred late in the morning May 8 also forced traffic off the interstate and onto state highways.

By Shane Scoggins Publisher   CARNESVILLE – Early voting for the May 21 primary is winding down, with one more Saturday and just over a week left to cast ballots before Election Day. Early voting is being held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day.
Inflation continues to be a major issue everywhere you turn. The cost of everything is going up. That was a major theme of the Canon City Council meeting Monday night.   “We have finally had to raise water rates,” City Clerk Holly Elrod explained after the meeting. “We buy our water from Franklin County Water, and they’ve gone up twice in the past few years.”

At the Franklin County Board of Education’s planning meeting May 2, it was announced that starting with the new school year in August, all school meals will be free of charge for all Franklin County students.

Pirates, mermaids invade Lavonia Saturday for Renaissance Festival
