Recent FCHS graduate working to restore Lavonia homes, building

By Samantha Sinclair Staff Writer   LAVONIA – In the course of a few months Evan Herring went from swinging a baseball bat to swinging a sledgehammer. He was driving around town one day during his junior year at Franklin County High School and saw houses he’d like to renovate on West Avenue.

Survivor believes God led way through cancer journey

By Samantha Sinclair Staff Writer   When Charity Henry woke up from surgery, the doctor put his hand on her arm. He told her they tested the lump he removed from her breast, and it was cancerous. For a split second, Henry was almost devastated.

Cities plan Halloween events for Oct. 29-30

A variety of events are scheduled for Halloween this year in Franklin County. Lavonia will feel like Halloween Town with its “The Nightmare Before Christmas” themed Halloween Carnival Oct. 29 from 4-6 p.m.  at the gazebo downtown.

Royston manager to retire

By Shane Scoggins Publisher   ROYSTON – City Manager Ed Andrews told the Royston City Council Tuesday that he plans to retire. “I’ve given seven years, the best I can give them,” Andrews said Wednesday morning. Andrews said he made his decision because he wants to focus on his family.
