A recount of ballots from the Aug. 11 runoff election for the Republican nomination for State Senate District 50 will be held Monday. ATLANTA – A bill to ban the burning of railroad crossties by energy plants in Franklin and Madison counties passed the Georgia State Senate unanimously Thursday afternoon. The bill, which was passed unanimously as well by the Georgia House of Representatives in March, will now go to Gov.

A Toccoa landmark is about to receive new life, as the Broken Bridges area in Toccoa is set to become a focal point of a 10-mile waterway trek. Broken Bridges over the Tugaloo River arm of Lake Hartwell has been a landmark along the Georgia/South Carolina border for well over 140 years.

Today Governor Brian P. Kemp signed Executive Order 4.30.20.01 and issued the following statement: "Tonight at 11:59 PM, the statewide shelter in place order for most Georgians will expire. However, moving forward, I am urging Georgians to continue to stay home whenever possible.
