Shortage of school bus drivers causes route changes

By Samantha Sinclair Staff Writer   Carnesville — Franklin County is in need of school bus drivers. The school district has 61 bus routes and 15 vacancies, Transportation Director Ray Hamilton explained to the board of education Thursday night.

‘60s Block Party set for Saturday at gazebo

By Samantha Sinclair Staff Writer   Lavonia — Downtown is getting groovy for its free end of summer event. The Lavonia Downtown Development Authority is holding a 60s Block Party 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 20 at the gazebo, and downtown businesses are taking part in the fun.
The new elementary school will replace Royston Elementary School and will be built on land just outside of Carnesville at 5670 State Road 145 that the school board purchased last month.

‘Forever Plaid’ on stage this weekend

Adaptive PE program debuts in schools

By Samantha Sinclair Staff Writer   Carnesville — Amber Adams has a passion for her new role in the special education department. She is in the beginning stages of implementing an adaptive physical education program and bringing Special Olympics back to the county.
The 1992 Franklin County Lions football team made the state quarterfinals and was the most successful in school history. The close-knit team was led by 16 seniors that included (front, from left) Elvin Brown, Eric Barnes, Jay Baskins, Robert Duncan, Erick Parson, (back) James McGee, Tarus Winters and Bob Whitworth.

‘92 Lions a special team that made quarterfinals

By Shane Scoggins Publisher   The 2022 football season marks the 30th anniversary of the most accomplished team in Franklin County football history. The 1992 Lions went on a run to the state quarterfinals that still lives in the memories of its coach and players.
