As part of its coverage of the 2022 elections, the Franklin County Citizen Leader submitted the same list of questions to each candidate running for a seat on the Franklin County Board of Commissioners.

The questions were:

1. Please provide information about your background, education, past service in government or with community organizations, church and family.

2. What qualities and/or qualifications do you feel will serve you best in the position you seek?

3. What are your plans if you are elected to the position?

4. Growth has been a big topic in Franklin County of late. What criteria will you use in deciding requests for rezoning, conditional use permits and other applications from developers?

5. If you had a chance to speak one-on-one with each registered voter in Franklin County, what would say to secure his or her vote?

The answers submitted by the candidates were used to write the story below.

Chris Snider has worked for some of the best-known companies in the country.

Leadership positions at Home Depot, Lowes and Fastenal has prepared him to help lead Franklin County into the future, he said.

“I have an extensive background of leadership for well respected companies,” he said. “I know what sets apart the good from the bad. We need that experience to lead us to what comes next, not just for the government, but for its citizens.”

Snider is seeking the Republican nomination for the District 3 seat on the Franklin County Board of Commissioners.

Snider attended Franklin County High School, where he lettered in football, baseball and chorus.

After graduating from FCHS in 1999, Snider studied two years at the University of Georgia before going to work.

He held management positions for three years each at both Home Depot and Lowes.

In 2004-05, he served as part of a Hurricane Reponse team.

For the past 10 years, Snider has worked with Fastenal, an industrial supplies company, where he specializes in cost savings solutions for all types of businesses and industries. He’s worked with industries of all types in Upstate South Carolina and Northeast Georgia.

Snider said he wants to team up with other local leaders to attract “great companies to not only invest in the county, but its people.

“We have to lessen the burden on our citizens as well as its infrastructure,” he said. “This includes first responders as well as education.”

The candidate said he would use common sense in deciding requests for rezoning, conditional use permits and other applications made by developers.

“Does this represent what the county wants and needs? Is this going to be a positive change for a majority of the county and its residents?” Snider said he would ask. “If we know what we want in the end result, the path will be easier to follow.”

Snider is married to April Stephens Snider, and they have four children, Logan, 20, James, 19, Gabriel, 16, and Emma, 14.

The family lives in the Canon area.

“Franklin County is home to us all,” he said. “I want it to be able to be home for our future generations to enjoy as we have. Unfortunately the only constant is change, so we better be proactive in controlling the narrative before it controls us. I want to help shape the county to be the best version of Franklin County for all citizens.”
