The Franklin County Lady Lions will host the Ringgold Lady Tigers in the first round of the State AAA playoffs Wednesday in Carnesville.
The winners of the last three Class AAA state softball championships will meet in the first round of the 2021 playoffs Wednesday in Carnesville.
The Franklin County Lady Lions will host the Ringgold Lady Tigers Wednesday at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. in Carnesville in a best-of-three series. A deciding third game, if needed, will be Thursday at 5 p.m.
Ringgold won the last two state championships for fast-pitch softball, defeating Franklin County for the 2019 title in Carnesville. The Lady Lions won the 2018 championship.
Franklin won the right to host the first-round matchup by winning the Region 8AAA championship.
The region tournament was cut short when the semifinals and championship could not be played due to poor field conditions after a week of heavy rain in Carnesville.
Ringgold finished fourth in Region 6AAA after a loss Saturday to Rockmart.
Despite its fourth-place seed, Ringgold is ranked No. 6 in AAA by MaxPreps and ScoreAtlanta, just one spot below No. 5 Franklin County.
Ringgold is 18-8 overall, scoring 7.3 runs per game and allowing 3.5 runs per contest.
The winner of the first round matchup will play either Jackson or Thomson in the second round.
The Lady Lions have made the state playoffs for 11 consecutive seasons, won the first round series four years in a row and advanced to at least the Elite Eight three consecutive times.
