Soccer Cubs off to hot start

The Franklin County Middle School Cubs soccer team started the season with a 4-0 record.

The team's latest win came Feb. 24, with a 1-0 victory over Rabun County.

Benji Molina-Gonzalez scored in the final minute in a "very tough, physical game," Coach John Marc Cooling said.

The coach said his team's defense with Rodrigo Valle, Brantley Hulsey, Eddie Narvaes-Sanchez  and Gage Robertson "played phenomenal" with Edwin Sigala making some key saves at goalie.

Franklin also notched wins over Banks County, Elbert County and Habersham County.

“Our eighth grade boys have really been great leaders in practice and have been  working hard every day,” Cooling said. “We had our best game of the season and really played our best teamwork so far against Habersham, last year’s region champ, beating them 4-1, our ball movement and possession was key in that game.”

Valle, Narvaes-Sanchez and Hulsey “have really anchored our defense this year, with Eli Cooling and Molina-Gonzalez have been outstanding in the midfield,” the coach said.

Miggy Martinez has finished well and Layden Bryson has been “a true workhorse” for FCMS on the wing, Cooling said.
