CARNESVILLE – The greatest season in Franklin County baseball history will continue for one more weekend and last as long as the Georgia High School Association allows.
The Franklin County Lions will face the North Hall Trojans in a best-of-three game series for the Class AAA state baseball championship at CoolRay Field, the home of the Atlanta Braves’ AAA minor league team the Gwinnett Stripers, in Lawrenceville.
The series will begin with a doubleheader Saturday, with the first game to begin at 6 p.m. A third game, if necessary, would be Monday.
The series will feature the Region 8AAA champion Lions against Region 7AAA champion North Hall.
North Hall, 31-5 this season, is ranked No. 1 in the state by MaxPreps and has been ranked in the top two or three in all state rankings throughout the season.
North Hall has been in the championship series three times since 2014 and won the title in 2017.
This will be Franklin County’s first trip to the state championship series. The 2021 team was the first since 1977 to make the state semifinals.
A sendoff ceremony for the team will be held Saturday at 2:15 p.m. at Franklin County High School.

Georgia High School Association passes will be accepted.
Gates will open approximately one hour before game time for fans.
Clear bags only will be allowed into the stadium. No food is allowed, but one unopened bottle of water per person may be carried in.
Franklin County will be on the home side of the stadium, which is the third base side.
