ROYSTON – Franklin County Farm Bureau Young Farmer Chairman Colt Hart and his wife, LeAnna, are chairing the 2023 Georgia Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee.
This is the second and final year of the Harts’ term on the committee.
Colt is a fourth-generation farmer who farms approximately 1,000 acres.
He maintains a herd of approximately 600 cattle and raises broilers and goats. He also grows millet, ryegrass, Bermudagrass and wheat.
The Hart farm has hosted the Franklin County Championship Rodeo for 29 years.
Colt also serves as a volunteer firefighter.
LeAnna homeschools the couple’s children and assists with day-to-day farm operations.
The Harts live in Royston and have five children, Jolee, Briar, Sage, Laila and Trace.
On the committee, the Harts represent the Georgia Farm Bureau’s Second District, which includes Farm Bureaus in Banks, Elbert, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Jackson, Lumpkin, Madison, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union and White counties.
The committee oversees the Farm Bureau’s young farmer and rancher activities, including the Young Farmers and Ranchers Leadership Conference on Jekyll Island in July, the Discussion Meet, Achievement Award and Excellence in Agriculture competitive events, the Picture Georgia in Agriculture Photo Contest and the Harvest for All Campaign.
The Georgia Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers program is designed to provide leadership development, educational and social opportunities for farmers between the ages of 18 and 35.
Founded in 1937, Georgia Farm Bureau is the state’s largest general farm organization and has 158 county offices covering every county in the state.
Its volunteer members actively participate in local, state and national activities that promote agriculture awareness to their non-farming neighbors.
Georgia Farm Bureau offers its members a wide variety of benefits, including insurance, but enrollment in any of the member benefits is optional and not a requirement for membership.
