Weekend filled with Christmas events in cities
The City of Royston officially lit the holiday season Monday with Christmas in Royston, which included the lighting of the city’s tree.
It was just the first of a host of Christmas events planned in Franklin County over the next couple of weeks.
Many of those events will be this weekend.
Royston will hold a holiday market Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Depot during Small Business Saturday.
A variety of gift ideas – from jewelry to candles to books and more – will be available during the market.
The Lavonia Christmas Parade will be Sunday at 3 p.m.
The parade entries will line up around City Hall before proceeding up Highway 17 – with a detour through downtown – to the Silo Center.
The City of Canon will hold its Christmas tree lighting Sunday at 6 p.m. in the Canon City Park.
The event includes the singing of Christmas carols and songs and a Christmas message before refreshments and a visit with Santa in the Parke House.
Christmas in Lavonia will be held Tuesday from 5-7 p.m.
The event, held at the Gazebo downtown, will include the lighting of the city’s Christmas tree, meetings with Santa and Mrs. Claus, Christmas music, children’s activities and treats.
The Coca-Cola Holiday Caravan – a specially lighted tractor trailer – will rolls into town, spreading holiday cheer and passing out free ice-cold Coca-Colas.
The City of Franklin Springs will hold its annual Christmas tree lighting Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. at Franklin Springs City Hall.
Franklin Springs’ annual event includes a variety of treats, ornament making, photos with Santa, a pit to roast marshmallows, carriage rides and carols before the tree in front of City Hall is lit.
The City of Carnesville’s annual Christmas tree lighting will be held Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. at Carnesville City Park.
The Canon Christmas Parade will be Dec. 7 at 11 a.m.
The parade lines up at the city park and then proceeds up Depot Street and then onto Highway 17 before ending just past City Hall.
The Royston Christmas Parade will be held Dec. 8 at 3 p.m.
The parade lines up on Old Elbert Road before proceeding up Highway 17 and turning onto Highway 29 and ending at the Dill’s Shopping Center.
