CARNESVILLE – The Carnesville Fire Department held its second annual Junior Firefighter Day Thursday to give 24 fourth and fifth grade students hands-on fire and rescue experience from departments in the area. The Carnesville, Red Hill, Bold Springs and 5 Area Fire Departments hosted the event. The children experienced performing vehicle extrication and operated the extrication tools, experienced a simulated smoke filled room and learned how to recover a downed victim, experienced a mock fire call where they got to ride in an engine and extinguish a simulated fire (represented by a traffic cone), toured an ambulance with Franklin County EMS and got a brief overview on CPR and basic first aid. They were also provided with a meal by Smitty’s BBQ free of charge and each child left with a smoke detector and other items donated by Georgia Poultry Company of Carnesville. (Photo by Raese)
