The child survived the incident and was successfully turned over to St. Mary’s for care.
“Deputy Phillips and Deputy Welborn displayed great decision-making capabilities and showed compassion to the parents of the child,” the sheriff’s office press release said. “Both deputies are being recognized by the Franklin County Sheriffs Office fir their life saving efforts and positive impact with the citizens during this incident.”
Phillips and Welborn were recommended by fellow officer and shift supervisor Lieutenant Bryan Woods.
