From staff reports
Citizens of Canon, Franklin Springs and Royston are invited to attend candidate forums planned in the next month in their cities.
And, they are invited to submit questions they would like to ask the candidates.
The Franklin County Citizen Leader will hold three separate candidate forums Sept. 18 at the Parke House in Canon, Sept. 22 at Franklin Springs City Hall and Oct. 2 at the Depot in downtown Royston.
Each forum will begin at 6 p.m.
Candidates in competitive races in each city will be invited to their town’s specific forum.
In Canon Sept. 18, incumbent Mayor Annie Wallace and challenger Eli Brown have been invited to the Canon forum.
If there is a competitive race for the seat vacated by Brown in August, those candidates will be invited as well.
Franklin Springs mayoral candidates incumbent Lee Moore, Josh Griffeth and Bruce Scranton have been invited to the Franklin Springs forum Sept. 22.
Council candidates incumbents Tom Wilson and Josh Walden and challengers Bryan Matheson and Joanna Matheson have also been invited.
In Royston on Oct. 2, incumbent Mayor Keith Turman and challenger Jason Phillips are invited, as are Post 1 candidates Wesley Fricks and Bob Adamson.
If more than one candidate qualifies for the Post 2 seat vacated by Phillips after qualifying Sept. 15-17, those candidates will be invited as well.
Candidates in each forum will be given up to three minutes for opening statements and two minutes for closing statements.
In between, questions submitted by citizens will be asked. Candidates will be given one minute to answer each question.
Citizens may submit questions for the candidates by emailing fcc@franklincountycitizen.com or dropping them by the Citizen Leader office at 12150 Augusta Road in Lavonia.
Questions on the same issue may be consolidated by the newspaper staff.
Personal or gotcha questions will not be allowed. Citizens are asked to stick to questions on issues that can be asked and answered by each candidate.
The staff of the Citizen Leader will also generate questions, but citizens’ questions will be given priority.
All questions must be submitted before the specific forum for which they are being asked.
No questions may be submitted at the forums.
