CANON — The qualifying period for the special election for Canon mayor and one city council seat begins Monday at 8:30 a.m. at city hall.
The election is set for June 15.
The election is needed to fill the vacancy left by the passing of Mayor Ray Morgan in January.
As Council Member – and current acting mayor – Annie Wallace has declared her intention to run for mayor, her council seat also needs to be filled in the election.
The election fills the seats for the remainder of the terms, both of which end Dec. 31.
Anyone wishing to run for either seat must bring their license and the $35 qualifying fee to city hall anytime Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The qualifying period ends Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
Early voting begins May 24 at the Franklin County Elections and Registration Office in Carnesville.
On the special election day, voting is from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in city hall.
Both seats, as well as another council seat, will be up for reelection in November, with qualifying for that election in August.
