Multiple events set for weekend

A busy, diverse slate of activities is on tap this weekend in Franklin County.

A haunted theater, a Young Farmers auction, a mattress sale and the opening of a classic play are all on the agenda.

• Young Farmers Auction.

The Franklin County Young Farmers will hold a farm equipment auction Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. in the Franklin County Ag Center parking lot at 270 High Road in Carnesville.

A variety of farming equipment, supplies and other items will be available.

Consignments are accepted. Equipment may be checked in through Friday.

• Mattress Sale.

The Franklin County High School Marching Pride Band will hold a mattress sale fundraiser Saturday in the FCHS cafeteria.

The sale will be held from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

More than 25 name-brand mattresses will be available at up to 30 percent below retail prices.

Pillows, sheets and adjustable bases will also be on sale.

Financing will be available.

Every purchase benefits the band.

• Haunted Carnival.

The FCHS theatre department will host a Haunted Carnival Saturday from 6-11 p.m. at the Telford Center for the Fine and Performing Arts at the high school.

Admission is $5.

A coloring table will be available for children who can’t go through the carnival, and those that want to go through and scare the ghosts will be provided with lights.

This will be the only weekend for the Haunted Carnival.

• Savannah River Productions’ “Camelot.”

Savannah River Productions will present its first play at its new theater in Lavonia beginning this weekend.

The classic musical “Camelot”  runs from Friday through Oct. 10. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2:30 p.m. Sundays.

• Life Chain 2021.

Franklin County Right to Life and the Franklin Life Pregnancy Resource Center will hold a Life Chain Sunday from 2-3 p.m. in each of the county’s five cities.

Locations will be in Canon at Canon Baptist Church, in Carnesville in front of the Franklin County Courthouse, in Franklin Springs at Emmanuel College, in Lavonia at the intersection of Highways 17 and 59 and in Royston at the intersection of Highways 17 and 29.

Children, strollers, chairs, water bottles and umbrellas are welcome.

In addition to those weekend events, the Franklin County High School basketball teams will hold a hamburger steak plate fundraiser Friday beginning at 4 p.m. for to-go plates and from 5-7 p.m. for dine-in at the FCHS cafeteria.

A limited number of walk-up tickets will be available.

Cost is $9.

Plates include fresh hamburger steak, baked potato, cole slaw, Texas toast and cookies.
