Double Churches receives grant

CARNESVILLE – Double Churches Volunteer Fire Department recently received nine new Scott self-contained breathing apparatus or SCBA partially funded by the 2020 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Award.

The SCBA is the foundational tool that provides the most significant amount of airway protection from toxic gas and harmful particulates resulting from the fire.

It’s essential for modern firefighting.

“They will significantly increase safety for our firefighters by providing the latest technology and meeting the most recent codes and standards,” said Double Churches Fire Chief James McFarlin.

The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations.

Since 2001, the grant has helped firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources necessary for protecting the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.

The Double Churches Fire Department is a private non-profit that’s owned and operated by the Double Churches Community.

The department receives funding from the Franklin County government and through special purpose local option sales tax contributions, as well as grants and community funding.

Double Churches  has more than 20 members and is a member of the Franklin County Fire Association.

Double Churches currently has an ISO rating of 4 meaning it falls in the upper quartile of fire departments in the USA.
