A variety of events are scheduled for Halloween this year in Franklin County.
Lavonia will feel like Halloween Town with its “The Nightmare Before Christmas” themed Halloween Carnival Oct. 29 from 4-6 p.m. at the gazebo downtown.
The Lavonia Downtown Development Authority will organize a trunk or treat, and festivities will include balloon art from Mr. Twister and music from Flash the D.J.
At dark, families are asked to bring out their blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy watching “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”
Businesses interested in participating in the trunk or treat should contact the DDA at 706-356-5725 or 706-356-1926.
Royston will also celebrate Halloween that night with trick or treating at the Wellness Park Oct. 29 from 4-6 p.m.
The event will take the place of the traditional trick or treating downtown, and will include civic organizations and businesses handing out candy at the park.
Afterwards, Connections for Special Parents plans to host a free family movie night at the park, with “Casper” starting at 7 p.m.
Hotdogs, chips and drinks will be available for purchase as a fundraiser for the group.
The city also plans to have a virtual costume contest. Details on how to participate will be available soon.
Canon’s annual Halloween event, Treats in the Park, is planned for Oct. 30 from 6-7:30 p.m. on Depot Street.
Candy will be handed out in individual packages by authority volunteers wearing gloves and masks. Sanitizer will be available.
Downtown Development Authority Director Teresa Paris said the public is invited to set up a space for handing out candy, too.
At dark, the authority plans to show a movie in the park.
Franklin County High School will host a Trunk or Treat Oct. 26 from 5-6:30 p.m. at Ed Bryant Stadium.
Following the Trunk or Treat, a parade will be held at 6:45 p.m. and a community-wide pep rally at 7 p.m.
