LAVONIA – The monthly mobile food pantry will change locations beginning with the Jan. 13 distribution of food.
Formerly hosted by the Lavonia Presbyterian Church, the food pantry will now be held at Lavonia Church of God at 107 Bear Creek Road in Lavonia.
The pantry, held each month in partnership with the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, distributes free food to all qualifying residents of Franklin and Hart counties.
The pantry is held from 8 a.m. until all food is distributed on the second Thursday of each month.
Residents may qualify if income is less than $1,396 monthly or $322 weekly for households with only one person.
The income allotment is increased with additional household members.
A signature on a form signed at the mobile food pantry serves as proof of income. No other documents are required.
Program benefits and participation are made available to everyone regardless of race, color, national origin, age, sex or disability.
This event will be held on a first come, first served basis and will be held rain or shine.
To get to the church, turn next to Northeast Georgia Bank onto Bear Creek Road. The church is on the left.
Four lanes of traffic will be lined up to pick up food and then proceed around the church to an exit.
Lavonia Church of God Pastor Adam Tripp said his church volunteered to host the pantry after Lavonia Presbyterian served as the site for 14 years.
A new site was sought due to traffic issues around the Presbyterian church, he said.
Pastor Jennifer Horton and members of Lavonia Presbyterian and other community members will be among the volunteers for the monthly food distribution, Tripp said.
