MACON – The Franklin County Farm Bureau received one state award for its outstanding member programs and was named a finalist for another during the 2021 Georgia Farm Bureau Convention, held Dec. 5-7 on Jekyll Island.
The Franklin County group received the Georgia Farm Bureau’s Outstanding Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee Award.
The local Young Farmers Committee, chaired by Colt Hart, hosted a recruitment event to engage members to get more active in the program.
Families were invited to meet for food and fellowship.
At the meeting, the committee filled 50 backpacks with agricultural items and a short story about the items and how they relate to agriculture in Georgia.
These were distributed through a local program called “Operation Christmas Backpacks.”
Franklin County Farm Bureau was a finalist for the 2021 Georgia Farm Bureau McKemie Award, given to recognize a county Farm Bureau’s overall agricultural advocacy program.
Founded in 1937, Georgia Farm Bureau is a membership-driven, nonprofit organization dedicated to serving as the voice of Georgia farmers and rural Georgia.
The Farm Bureau, Georgia’s largest farm organization, promotes Georgia commodities and offers legislative representation to ensure Georgia’s farming future.
Its volunteer members actively participate in local, state and national activities that promote agriculture awareness to their non-farming neighbors.
Georgia Farm Bureau membership is open to the public and offers a wide variety of benefits to its members including insurance and discounts for health services, travel and family entertainment.
Enrollment in any of the member benefits is optional and not a requirement for membership. Becoming a GFB member helps support local farmers and ensures Georgians continue to have access to locally grown, high-quality food.
