CARNESVILLE – Early voting for the May 24 state and local primaries begins Monday and will run through May 20.
Voting will be held Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Franklin County Elections and Registration Office at 7850 Royston Road in Carnesville.
Saturday voting will be held May 7 and May 14 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day, also at the elections office.
Four local races are on the local Republican primary ballot for May 24.
Elizabeth Martin Busby and Chris Snider are vying for the District 3 seat on the Franklin County Board of Commissioners.
Cole Roper and Josh Smith face each other for the District 4 commission seat.
For board of education, incumbent Alan Mitchell is challenged by Greg Cary for the Post 4 seat and Robin Cato is challenged by Matt Brannon for the Post 5 seat.
The primary ballot will also include races for governor, U.S. Senator, state representative, U.S. representative and other state offices.
Voters will need a picture ID to be able to vote and will have to choose whether they want to vote in the Republican or Democratic primaries or non-partisan. The voter will have to vote in the same primary should there be a runoff.
Voters need to go ahead and call in for an absentee application that needs to be filled out before a ballot can be issued, Elections Supervisor Gina Banister said.
“All absentee ballots must be mailed from our office, so voters need to be mindful of the postal system and their mail schedule,” Banister said.
The last day to request and mail out absentee ballots is May 13.
The elections office plans to process absentee ballots early, though no tabulation will take place until 7 p.m. on Election Night.
