Pastors, leaders take part in Day of Prayer
CARNESVILLE — Pastors, local leaders and community members gathered on the Franklin County Courthouse grounds May 5 for the National Day of Prayer. The observance is held on the first Thursday of May each year, as designated by the United States Congress. Franklin County’s event, organized by Mark Kane, included prayers and thoughts from Pastor Jennifer Horton of Lavonia Presbyterian Church, Lavonia Mayor Courtney Umbehant, Franklin Life Director Tina Brock, Lavonia Police Officer Jonathan Merck, Pastor Joshua Cabrera of Lavonia Church of God, Ken and Patsy Watkins of Step of Faith, Bill Abant of One Hope Outreach, Tonya Powers of Devout Women of Faith, the Rev. Hugh Hendrickson of Lavonia First United Methodist Church, Prophet James Redmond and Pastor Adam Tripp of Lavonia Church of God. County Manager Derrick Turner read Gov. Brian Kemp’s proclamation declaring the Day of Prayer in Georgia. Donna Kane led the crowd in singing “Amazing Grace.”
