Qualifying for city elections had a slow start with only four people signing up Monday to run office in the five cities combined.
However, multiple candidates filed Tuesday and Wednesday.
Lee Moore and Tom Wilson were both at Franklin Springs City Hall Monday to submit paperwork and fees to run for reelection for mayor and city council, respectively.
On Wednesday, Joshua Walden also qualified for city council in Franklin Springs. There were two council seats up for election. Councilman Tim Smith did not file to run for reelection.
In Lavonia, Michael Schulman qualified for reelection for his Post 1 council seat on Monday, and Jeremy Madden qualified for the Post 2 seat currently held by David Howell.
Howell said he does not plan to run for reelection.
On Wednesday, Michelle Whitworth also qualified to run for the Post 1 council seat in Lavonia.
Although Canon just had a special election in June for mayor and one city council seat, both positions are up for election, as well as another council seat.
On Tuesday, Mayor Annie Wallace filed to run for reelection, and William Minish filed to run for city council.
Councilmen Cullen Morgan and Dale Garner also qualified for reelection before the filing period ended Wednesday.
Carnesville had two council seats up for election.
On Tuesday, incumbent Wesley Dove filed as well as Angie Smith. Mike Barrett also filed to run Wednesday morning.
Royston has three council seats and mayor up for election.
This is the first election in the city for which candidates must select a post.
Keith Turman filed Wednesday to run for mayor.
Incumbents Matt Fields (Post 3) and Kenneth Roach (Post 1) qualified for reelection.
In Post 5, currently held by Larry Bowen, David Pressley, Wesley Fricks and Darryl Ayers had qualified by Wednesday afternoon to run for election. Fletcher Hodges qualified for Post 1.
Qualifying closed at the end of the day Wednesday in all five cities, after the Franklin County Citizen Leader’s press time.
Election Day is Nov. 2.
