CARNESVILLE – Four of the five local posts up for election this year will be contested races.
Both seats up for election on the Franklin County Board of Commissioners and two of three seats on the county board of education will be contested.
Qualifying for the races ended Friday at noon.
In county commission races, Elizabeth Martin Busby of Carnesville will face Chris Snider of Canon for the District 3 seat currently held by Ryans Swails.
Swails did not seek reelection.
Former County Commissioner Jeff Jacques had originally qualified to run for the District 3 seat but pulled out of the race on Friday.
The District 4 seat will see newcomers Cole Roper of Royston and Josh Smith of Royston face off for election.
The winner will replace Eddie Wester, who is not seeking reelection.
The Post 4 and 5 seats on the Franklin County Board of Education will be contested.
Incumbent Alan Mitchell and newcomer Greg Cary signed up to run for the post 4 seat.
Incumbent Robin Cato and newcomer Matt Brannon qualified to run for the Post 5 seat.
Incumbent Randall Gailey qualified Wednesday for the Post 3 seat and does not have opposition.
All of the qualified candidates are Republicans.
Primaries will be held May 24.
