LAVONIA – Lavonia City Councilman Courtney Umbehant has resigned.
Monday night before the start of the Lavonia City Council’s regular meeting, Umbehant announced that he was resigning his Post 1 council seat before qualifying to run for mayor of Lavonia in August.
The mayor’s post, the Post 3 seat currently held by Eddie Floyd and the Post 4 seat currently held by Harold Harbin are up for election this year.
Umbehant went on to say it was his hope that the special election and qualifying could be held at the same time as the general election.
Qualifying will be held Aug. 19-21 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. each day at city hall.
