Lions, Bulldogs to meet tonight at FCHS

The Franklin County Lion and Lady Lion basketball teams will host rival Hart County tonight at FCHS in key Region 8AAA games for both teams.

The Lions, winners of four straight – including a buzzer-beating win Saturday at Stephens County – are currently 2-3 (9-7 overall) and in fifth place in the region standings.

Hart County, ranked No. 6 in the state, is in third place with a  3-1 record (12-4 overall).

The Bulldogs are led by former long-time Franklin County coach Harry Marsh. Marsh came out of retirement this year to lead the Bulldogs' program, where he spent many years and won a state championship before coming to Franklin County.

"Lion Nation, we need you to come pack out the Lion's Den .... Come out and be loud," Franklin Coach Jason Shaver wrote on Facebook.

The Lady Lions are in a similar situation as the boys.

The Franklin girls are also 2-3 in region play (11-5 overall) and in fifth place.

The Lady Lions have dealt with injury and illness early in the season, which has led to some struggles and early-season losses.

The team will come into the Hart matchup off of three straight wins.

Hart is 3-1 in region play, 12-4 overall and ranked No. 5 in the state.

“We need everybody there,” Lady Lion Coach John Strickland said last week about the Hart matchup.

The girls' game will tipoff at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow at around 7:30 p.m.
