Proposal for solar panel farm tabled to seek IBA input
CARNESVILLE – Prospects for a new solar farm near Lavonia were clouded Monday when Franklin County Commissioners tabled the idea to allow the county’s economic developers to weigh in.
Solar energy company SolAmerica applied for a conditional use permit to install 17 acres of panels on a portion of a larger tract owned by Pacolet Milliken off of Highway 59 and Sibley Mill Road.
Franklin County Manager Elizabeth Thomas recommended commissioners put off a decision until the Industrial Building Authority can be consulted.
The proposed site for the solar farm is currently a part of 333 acres where the former Milliken Sibley Mill once stood.
Commissioners voted unanimously to table the motion.
Wester, who served as a liaison to the IBA, said he would bring it up to the development board at their meeting next week.
