Wilkinson named new principal at FCHS
CARNESVILLE – Sometimes when you get ready to make a change in your life, things fall into place perfectly.
That’s how Roger Wilkinson became the new principal of Franklin County High School.
Wilkinson, a native of Gadsden, Ala., has spent his entire life working in his hometown or in the surrounding areas.
After spending the last 25 years working in Alabama school systems, Wilkinson began looking at what was going to be next for him since he was nearing retirement.
“My wife (Wynne) and I started traveling to visit areas we always wanted to see,” Wilkinson said. “We went to Helen, Dahlonega, Blue Ridge and Toccoa. I love visiting state parks. While we were traveling, we fell in love with the area.”
It was then that Wilkinson and his wife decided the next step should be a job in Georgia.
Even though he spent the last four years as the principal of an elementary school, Wilkinson is happy to be back at a high school.
“High school is really my love,” Wilkinson said. “I was missing it. I’m thankful to be at a high school again. I’m also glad it’s in a rural area because that’s what I’m accustomed to.”
