One school board race contested on first day
CARNESVILLE – At least one local race will be contested in the May 22 party primaries.
Current Franklin County Board of Education Chair Robin Cato will face newcomer Davie "David" Mayfield Sr. for the Republican nimation for the Post 5 seat on the school board.
Qualifying for two county commission seats and three board of education posts began Monday.
On the school board, along with Cato's seat, the Post 3 seat of Bo Lowery and the Post 4 seat of Alan Mitchell will be on the ballot.
For county commission, Post 4 Commissioner Eddie Wester filed for reelection Monday.
The Post 3 commission seat currently held by Jeff Jacques is also up for reelection this year.
Candidates may qualify as either Republicans or Democrats.
Qualifying will be held through March 9 at the Franklin County Board of Elections office in Carnesville.
Qualifying will open beginning at 9 a.m. each day and be open during regular office hours until noon on March 9.
Qualifying fees will be $216 for county commissioner races and $36 for school board seats.
The general primary will be held May 22, with the general election Nov. 6.
