Festival, ‘Journey to Oz’ welcome fall to Franklin
The first unofficial weekend of fall will be a busy one in Franklin County.
While the weather may still feel like summer, the activities will take on an autumnal feel.
Carnesville will kick off fall festival season Friday and Saturday, and the Franklin Community Players will give fans a chance to meet their favorite characters from “The Wizard of Oz.”

The 28th annual Carnesville Fair and Festival will be held Friday and Saturday at the City Park.
Food vendors and amusement rides will be available Friday from 5-10 p.m.
The Second Time Around Band will perform Friday at 7 p.m., followed by Reggie Starrett at 9 p.m.
Saturday will bring a full day of activities.
Craft vendors will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. in the park, with food vendors offering a variety of favorites from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m.
From 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., a yard sale will be held in the parking lot of Carnesville Primary School.
A classic car Cruise In will be held from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Amusement rides will be open from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.
Entertainment will include the Franklin County High School Band at 10 a.m. in the park.
Night-time entertainment will feature Chris McDaniel at 7 p.m. and America’s Got Talent Top 10 finalist Benton Blount at 9 p.m.
• Journey to Oz.
Tickets are on sale for the Franklin Community Players’ Journey to Oz, which will be held Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. until noon at the Lavonia Cultural Center.
Guests can come anytime during Journey to Oz to meet their favorite characters from the merry old land of OZ.
The event will include refreshments, activities and photograph and autograph opportunities with the beloved characters from the children’s classic story.
The cast includes Victoria Burns as Dorothy, Jon Erik Tripp as the Cowardly Lion, Eli Hanley as the Scarecrow, Damian Dorn as the Tin Man and Callie Hanley as the Wicked Witch.
Space is limited, and advance tickets are strongly recommended.
