New agent looks to grow county’s 4-H program
CARNESVILLE – There is a new face at the Franklin County Extension Office.
Raleigh Dawson is the county’s new 4-H coordinator.
Dawson was introduced to the Franklin County Board of Education in November by Franklin County Extension Agent Raymond Fitzpatrick during her first week.
“I enjoy my time in the classroom,” Dawson said. “I feel like 4-H should be used as extra resources as well as a tie in to the curriculum. In my meetings, I try to connect math, reading and science to real world applications. I try to get students excited about math, science and presenting the information they have learned.”
Dawson was extremely pleased with the first 4-H meeting that was held at FCMS.
“There was a lot more participation than I expected,” Dawson said. “There are more than 10 students enrolled in the class.”
As Dawson prepares to reenergize the 4-H program in Franklin County schools, she is looking forward to working with students, teachers, parents and the community to make 4-H yet another program the county can have pride in.
