Lion track star inducted into Florida Gators Hall of Fame

Nekita Beasley Eppes’ name has been recorded with honor from Carnesville to Atlanta to New Orleans, La.

And now it has been exalted even higher in Gainesville, Fla.

Eppes was inducted into the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame back in November.

“I was shocked,” she said recently of her induction from her home in Gainesville, Fla. “I’m still shocked.”

The Franklin County native competed – and set records – at the high school and college levels and finished eighth in the 1992 U.S. Olympic Team trials in New Orleans, La.

Eppes’ advice to younger people hinges on her faith in God.

“Never give up and always put God first,” she said, “and know that you can do anything through him because he is your strength.”
