Lady Lions to wear flag in response to Nike flap
CARNESVILLE – A new ad campaign by Nike is changing a fundraiser being conducted by the Franklin County Lady Lions basketball team.
Nike unveiled a new ad campaign last week featuring former San Francisco 49er quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
The Lady Lions basketball team is currently seeking sponsorships for its 2018-19 Hardwood Club.
Lady Lion Coach John Strickland said that some potential sponsors have balked because of the Nike shirt they would receive.
The coach said that he will offer Under Armour shirts for those who don’t want a Nike shirt.
He said his team will also wear an American flag sewn on their uniforms this year in response to Nike’s ad campaign.
“They may not want to support the things this community believes in,” Strickland said of Nike, “but this is what we will do in response.”
