CARNESVILLE – Jason Oliver is the new athletic director for the Franklin County School System.

Oliver, a veteran teacher and coach at FCHS, was named athletic director on an interim basis Thursday by the Franklin County Board of Education and new Superintendent Chris Forrer.

He replaces Steve Horton, who stepped down to return to coaching at Hart County High School.

“At this point, the athletic director position is completely locally funded,” Franklin County School Superintendent Chris Forrer said Monday. “We would like it to pull funding from another source. The reason Coach Oliver was named interim athletic director is because it allows us some flexibility to assign additional duties without having to have the board take action on it.”

Forrer went on to say that what additional duties will be added has yet to be determined, but it will be based on funding.

“This is a funding issue,” Forrer said. “Coach Oliver is going to be our athletic director. We just want to pull some funding for the position from another source.”

Oliver will also continue to coach the Lady Lion softball team at FCHS.

The team won the school’s first state championship in the sport last season.
