Cawthon: Transportation, downtown top issues for Lavonia
LAVONIA – The city of Lavonia is a great city, says Lavonia City Manager Charles Cawthon.
“It’s great because of a lot of the people in this city,” said Cawthon, who spoke during the Lavonia Chamber of Commerce Lunch and Learn Thursday.
Cawthon went on to say that even though Lavonia is a great city, it still has some obstacles it is going to face in the future.
“Transportation is one of the big items facing the city in the near future,” Cawthon said. “Transportation touches a lot of our lives. The (Interstate) 85 corridor will continue to be widened. If you look at traffic on the interstate, it is continuing to increase. Thirty percent of that traffic is transfer trucks.”
Another area the city will have to address is tourism.
The third obstacle the city will have to face is recreation.
Cawthon then said that housing is an issue that the city has to address.
According to Cawthon, water is still vitally important to growth.
