LAVONIA – A Toccoa man died in a crash Tuesday at Stone Bridge Road and Grady School Road.

Johnny Burton Freeman, 78, of Toccoa, was traveling north on Stone Bridge Road when his Cadillac Seville was struck by Robby Douglas McDaniel’s Ford F-250 at the intersection of Grady School Road, according to a press release from Georgia State Patrol Post 52.

According to reports, McDaniel, 57, of Jefferson, failed to stop at the posted stop sign while traveling east on Grady School Road.

After impact, both vehicles traveled off the road into a field, with the DeVille overturning and McDaniel being ejected from his F-250.

Freeman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 16-year-old passenger in Freeman’s car suffered minor injuries according to reports and was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville by Franklin County EMS. The passenger was also a Toccoa resident according to the report.

McDaniel was airlifted to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville with serious injuries, according to reports.

The state patrol reported that McDaniel will be charged with failure to stop at a stop sign, no seatbelt and second degree vehicular homicide.
