Lavonia — The two Coca-Cola murals in downtown Lavonia — the other on Grogan Street — were repainted Tuesday by Color the World Bright from the University of Georgia as part of the Lavonia Downtown Development Authority’s streetscape project. Color the World Bright, a program headed by Lamar Dodd School of Art Professor Joseph Norman, works to refresh and paint murals in communities. As the students took a break, Charles Dove visited the mural on the side of the building at 803 Grogan St. He used to own the building, and recalled being asked by three or four people from Coca-Cola about 10 years ago if they could paint the original mural for advertising purposes. “They really were impressed with this spot,” Dove said. The group plans to return to Lavonia to replace and refresh other murals in town for the streetscape project, including painting a mural at the Spring Street Gym. Any Lavonia business that would like to commission a mural may contact Barbara Busby with the Lavonia DDA at 706-356-1926.
